Born in 1939 in Liège, Belgium.

Lives and works in Liège, Belgium.

In Charlier’s work, nothing is left to chance. A fine connoisseur of art history, he revisits it by questioning it with irony and a certain black humor. Choosing in turn painting, photography, video, music, song, writing, sculpture, installation, comics, advertising, he develops an approach underpinned by a critical analysis of the world of art, and different currents called "avant-garde". The starting point of his work is the idea he wants to convey. Before getting to work, he creates a script, like a director. His works must above all arouse an attentive and critical gaze. He then builds his creation with several media, provided they are ideal for the final object of his work. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, Jacques Charlier adapts his support and style according to the idea. His parodies of the language of different styles and eras oblige the viewer to continually revisit the history of art.

Having participated in numerous international exhibitions, solo or collective, his works are in important private and public collections. It is present in the collections of Belgian modern art museums in Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Ostend, and French (FRAC of Champagne-Ardenne, Île-de-France, Nord-Pas-de-Calais and the Pays de la Loire) and in Mudam in Luxembourg.

In 2017, he presented the exhibition Peintures en tous genres and Peintures irrésistibles in 2019. His last solo exhibition, Peintures cohérentes, was held in 2023.
