Whether poet, actor, writer or visual artist, Serge Pey is an artist outside the borders and one of the main visual poets of the 21st century.  His poetic actions, inspired by Situationism and Surrealism, punctuate his entire career as well as the Marches de la Poésie, which he inaugurated in 1980. Performer, music teller but also direct philosopher, he is also the author of a thesis on the relationship between orality and writing: "The language snatched," under the direction of Georges Mailhos. Founder of the magazine Émeute in 1975, followed by Tribu in 1981, he is now a lecturer at the University of Toulouse-Le-Mirail and artistic project manager at the Centre d'initiatives artistiques du Mirail. Among his works, the «infinite traps» are poems written on sticks with which he realizes his scansions and the traps of his installations, these being the witnesses of the transfigured word of our time.


Author of about a hundred publications in France and abroad, Serge Pey leads a singular work in contemporary French poetry. His practice of direct poetry led him to deepen the phenomena of possession and dispossession in the oral practice of the poem. His books have been published by Jacques Brémond, Jean-Michel Place, Richard Meier “Voix édition”, Bernard Dumerchez, and in two anthologies by Gallimard: Orphée Studio, 1999 and Poèmes à dire du XXème siècle, 2002.


Many spaces and institutions have exhibited his compositions: the Venice Biennale, La Maison Rouge, the Musée d'art contemporain de la ville de Toulouse or the Centre d'art et de littérature de l'Échelle in particular. His writings of courage, in tribute to the resistance of thought, are exhibited as permanent works at the Midi-Pyrénées Regional Council. 


Two solo exhibitions were held at the Galerie Lara Vincy: La parole des bâtons in 2004 and 100 Neolithic poems in 2008.
